Baseball season this year was busy with three games a week between Dylan and Simon. I brought my camera regularly but being uncomfortably pregnant made getting up and down out of my lawn chair somewhat difficult and discouraged the taking of many pictures. And, I really wanted to enjoy the games with my eyes rather than through a camera lens. Dylan's team was the team to beat and few of the opposing teams got the better of them even though they put up a good fight. Needless to say, the games were a lot of fun to watch. Evan definitely had the better view being one of the coaches on the field, but I appreciated being able to sit on the side this year and enjoy.
Our new friend Nat Butler had his awesome telephoto lens and camera at many of the games, and so he was able to get some pretty good shots of the players. The photos pictured here are all samples of his work and we are grateful he recorded this season so beautifully.
We counted it a great fortune that both of Nat's boys were on our boys' teams and, while he didn't get as many shots of Simon's t-ball team, this one is priceless.
Simon's team was more like a comedy of errors than a team, sometimes
with only two players--Simon and Jesus--willing to play the last inning.
The rest were crying in the dug out or sitting in the bleachers with
their parents unwilling to play.
But Simon learned the
basics of hitting the ball and running the bases, as well as stopping a
ball with whatever hand was available and throwing it to first base. He was the youngest kid on the team, but he had an amazingly jovial attitude about the whole thing. I should mention that having his dad as one of the coaches certainly helped Simon enjoy the experience in spite of his less than enthusiastic team mates.
